About Czero

Engineering energy transformation

Czero is a mechanical engineering services firm specializing in early-stage, concept-to-prototype R&D for innovative technologies in the energy sector. We are passionate about the clean energy transition, and our work centers on scalable, cost-effective solutions to increase energy efficiency, improve energy storage and delivery, and decrease harmful emissions.

This Sankey diagram of US energy consumption by the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is one of our favorite images because it so clearly captures the whole energy sector at a glance. At Czero, we've helped develop technology related to almost every energy source shown along the left side of this graph. To play our part in the energy transition, we're technology-agnostic and work with companies in every part of the energy sector, from the pure renewables to fossil fuels. On the consumption side, we've worked on numerous electricity generation and grid-firming projects. For the end-uses (shown in pink boxes), our roots are in transportation and we also focus on the hard-to-decarbonize industrial sector.

Our team takes on wide-ranging engineering challenges for both private and public sector clients in all parts of this diagram, developing new technologies and delivering high quality proof-of-concept prototype systems. Contributing positively to the global energy transition is what drives us to bring our best to work each day.

Our projects have included carbon capture and sequestration, energy storage technologies, fuel cells, electrolyzers, hydrogen infrastructure, methane pipeline leak detection, wave energy capture, improvements to transportation vehicles including electrification, hybridization, improved fuel systems and valve trains.

Bridging the technological readiness gap for hard-tech

Czero's domain of expertise bridges a key gap in the path of technology development.

We work in the middle between the fundamental research experts who generate and lab-bench test new concepts and the high-volume production experts who are adept at ramping a product up to production.

We can take ideas that are purely conceptual or only vetted at a small-scale level, do the detailed engineering to get it to the next phase of working prototype, and also do the build and test the prototype.

Partner with us

While energy transformation challenges span dozens of industries, we most often collaborate with clients in the clean tech, industrial machinery, automotive, and oil and gas industries.

Czero works with companies of all sizes, from start-ups to multinational OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers. We also work with government agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Defense, national labs, and universities.

Additionally, we work with multiple technology incubators & accelerators, including Innosphere Ventures' REACH Energy Accelerator, Activate, Rocky Mountain Institute's Third Derivative, and the Grantham Foundation.

We have a variety of working relationships structures to meet the needs of each project. Whether it's a typical client-consultant agreement, or a partnership for a federally funded grant program, we'll work with you to establish terms that are mutually beneficial.

If you have a project in mind, contact us. We’d love to help you make it happen.
