Czero's Lindsay Ritsema attended Charm Industrial's Climate Tech Open House on February 5, 2025, as they celebrated the sustained operations of its first of a kind (FOAK) carbon removal project in its Fort Lupton, Colorado factory - one of the largest carbon removal projects in the US. ​The Open House included an overview of Charm's business and a tour of their carbon removal project, followed by great networking with Charmers and other climate tech and hardware professionals.​ Charm Industrial turns excess, inedible corn stalks and forest residues into bio-oil and injects it deep underground to remove carbon from the atmosphere permanently. This provides new economic opportunities to rural, farming, and energy communities.

Czero's CEO, Guy Babbitt, and Business Development Rep, Lindsay Ritsema, attended the annual CES conference in Las Vegas, January 7-10, 2025, which attracted over 141,000 attendees, featured more than 4,500 exhibitors, and hosted 6,000 media analysts. CES brings together the brightest tech luminaries to pioneer the future and address the world's biggest challenges. The event provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with partners, form new relationships, and witness the exciting innovations shaping the future. Notably, CES 2025 highlighted significant advancements in sustainability, showcasing technologies aimed at reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.

Czero was a finalist in the Colorado Cleantech Industries Association's award for “High Impact” company. The award was part of CCIA's 15th annual Colorado Cleantech Awards held December 17, 2024, at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The Cleantech Awards Celebration brings the cleantech community together to honor the creativity, innovation, and dedication to a cleaner energy future put forth by Colorado’s entrepreneurs, educators, corporate innovators, volunteers and policymakers. The High Impact Cleantech Company award recognizes mature organizations with a growing staff, multiple products in the marketplace, and positive earnings. This category honors companies with a significant local, national, or global impact on the cleantech industry.

The Warehouse Innovation Hub, which works along side companies looking to succeed beyond the incubator stage, getting from startup to scaleup, hosted "The Merry Mingle" on December 5, 2024 at the Forge Campus in Loveland, CO. Czero's own Lindsay Ritsema, BD rep, was in attendance and enjoyed talking with various companies about their lifecycle journey. The Campus encompasses a diverse range of tenants, resources and infrastructure dedicated to empowering and nurturing advanced manufacturing and technology businesses.

Czero's CEO, Guy Babbitt, was invited to the Southwest Research Institute's Geothermal Energy Machinery and Systems (GEMS) Workshop on November 19-20, 2024 in San Antonio, TX. This event is jointly organized by members from the industry, academia and the US Department of Energy. The workshop aims to provide an opportunity for industry experts to meet and discuss the technology development needs for advanced geothermal surface plants. This joint industry-government-academia GEMS workshop will provide an open information and networking session with the primary goal to advance geothermal power plant technology.

The Governor's Awards for High-Impact Research was held on November 20, 2024 at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The awards honor Colorado’s top scientists and engineers for their brilliant, impactful research projects. Czero attended the state's premier scientific recognition event along with NREL and other government agencies, CSU, CU, CO Mines and other universities, and many cleantech companies. Congratulations to all the winners and keep on doing this great work!

Czero helped sponsor the Fort Collins ClimateCon! on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the Lory Student Center on the Colorado State University campus. ClimateCon!'s mission is to inspire and empower individuals, businesses, and communities to take decisive action in addressing the urgent challenges of climate change. Various panels were held throughout the day and united a diverse community of thought leaders, industry innovators, policymakers, and advocates who share a common goal: driving transformative change.

INTEGRATE project demonstration photo

In early November, Drs. William Horak, Christian Vandervort, and Colin Gore from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) ARPA-E traveled to Czero for a project update/demonstration of the INTEGRATE project where Czero is collaborating with project partners Nexceris and Brayton Energy. Scott Swartz of Nexceris and Jim Kesseli from Brayton Energy also made the trek to see the fruits of their labor at our prototype manufacturing & test site in Fort Collins.

This ARPA-E INTEGRATE project (Innovative Natural-gas Technologies for Efficiency Gain in Reliable and Affordable Thermochemical Electricity-generation) aims to demonstrate 70% efficiency converting natural gas to electricity based on LHV. This project is a fun one for sure. It operates at 850+ °C, has cutting edge Solid Oxide Fuel Cells from Nexceris, a custom gas turbine & combustor from Brayton Energy, and some very challenging integration and operation details that Czero took on.

NCRES and Czero co-hosted a fantastic networking event on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Czero facility in Fort Collins. NCRES is dedicated to the advancement of all forms of renewable energy (RE), energy efficiency (EE), and their synergy with sustainability and economic development in Northern Colorado. Their goal is to raise awareness and provide educational activities to increase the adoption of existing and emerging EE/RE technologies, techniques, and policies. Along with many of NCRES' members, there were representatives from Colorado State University, CSU Powerhouse, Colorado School of Mines, Colorado-Wyoming Engine, and many integral companies in attendance. It was a great evening of conversation and meeting new people!

Czero's Guy Babbitt and Lindsay Ritsema joined more than 6,000 leaders from across functions, industries and sectors to discover what it takes to deploy climate tech at scale at Verge 2024 on October 29-31.  The conference brought together professionals catalyzing transformative, profitable change through decarbonizing their operations and supply chains as well as practitioners doing the hard, ongoing work of integrating climate solutions share their successes, setbacks and insights to smooth the path forward for all. It was a pleasure meeting new companies at the conference and beginning to build meaningful connections. We’re looking forward to collaborating, sharing insights, and exploring future possibilities together.

Czero's own Lindsay Ritsema, from our Business Development team, attended the 11th annual Colorado Cleantech Oil & Gas Cleantech Challenge (OGCC) on October 24, 2024 in Denver, CO. The Oil & Gas Cleantech Challenge is a product innovation showcase and competition that connects clean technology solutions to the oil and natural gas industry. As the oil and natural gas industry evolves and faces challenging markets, it continues to invest in technologies that address methane mitigation, resource usage, water quality and operational risks. It was inspiring to see all of the new ideas and the cleantech community in Colorado!

MIT's spinout, The Engine, held it's annual two-day event October 8-9, 2024 that brought together the ecosystem around Tough Tech: founders, investors, industry, academics, and government representatives to further the importance and relevance of companies solving our biggest problems across climate, human health, and advanced systems. Czero's Guy Babbitt was in attendance, participated in the talks, forums and sessions and enjoyed having great conversations with many of the attendees about the issues we face.

The Colorado Hydrogen Network (CHN) hosted a great event October 6, 2024 for Colorado Hydrogen Day at CSU Spur. This event focused on hydrogen safety, sources of hydrogen, and why we need hydrogen for the energy transition. Companies, organizations, state agencies, and universities engaged in hydrogen technology were in attendance as well as Czero's own Lindsay Ritsema, Business Development Lead, and Eanna Hardesty, Mechanical Engineer, were there to enjoy the displays and exhibits and converse with attendees. In 2021, Jared Polis, Governor of the State of Colorado, issued a Proclamation declared October 8 as Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day within the state. The Proclamation reflects nationwide efforts to promote National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day. Governor Polis identified the growth of hydrogen and its ability to combat carbon emissions as driving factors in the establishment of the day.

Czero's Michael Sprengel spent two days, September 10-11, 2024, with peers from across the Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) ecosystem. The focus of the Annual Workshop was to increase partnership developments and networking between Teaming Partners, host interactive breakout sessions, and provide informational sessions from key speakers and panelists. 

The LDES National Consortium provides a forum through which stakeholders across the LDES ecosystem can convene to identify barriers, determine potential synergies, and collaboratively develop and implement strategies necessary to achieve LDES technology commercialization within the next decade.

Czero attended the official Houston Energy and Climate Startup Week, September 9-13, 2024. The event brought together leading energy and climate venture capital investors, industry leaders and startups from around the world to showcase the most innovative companies and technologies that are transforming the energy industry while driving a sustainable, low-carbon energy future. Throughout the week, startups solving energy and climate challenges had the opportunity to present their technologies and solutions to top venture capital, private equity and corporate strategic investors.

Czero co-hosted a networking happy hour event with Activate in Golden, CO, on August 28, 2024. In addition to Activate and the Activate Fellows, alumni and staff, there was a wide spectrum of individuals from Activate's community of supporters including the local universities, NREL, investing groups, trade organizations and other companies that provided great networking and conversation.

Activate is dedicated to empowering scientists and engineers to bring their groundbreaking research from the lab to the market. By providing funding, mentorship, and a vibrant community, Activate supports fellows in transforming their ideas into tangible solutions that address real-world challenges.

Czero's VP of Engineering, Chris Turner, attended the Ground Vehicle Systems Engineering & Technology Symposium (GVSETS) & Modernization Update from August 13-15, 2024, sponsored by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Michigan Chapter. The conference provided the opportunity to personally network and share technical research to approximately 2,000 attendees.

NDIA is dedicated to enhancing warfighter capabilities and finding solutions for capability gaps which are growing in scope and complexity for current and future conflicts. The focus of the 2024 GVSETS is partnering with industry, government, and academia to explore technical areas that can support future formations and the digitization of the current and future Army.

In mid-August, Czero demonstrated a functional Hybrid Genset/Mobile Tactical Battlefield Recharger (MTBR) to stakeholders at the GVSC Detroit Arsenal grounds. 

This amazing technology can both provide 400+ kW power and do DC fast charging of multiple vehicles at a time efficiently and quietly running on JP8.

It was really exciting to watch our high-efficiency, Hybrid Genset/Mobile Tactical Battlefield Recharger (MTBR) heading on its way to an Army facility in August 2024 for a demonstration to stakeholders.

Czero is both excited and honored to be part of the project team that was selected through ARPA-E's GREENWELLS program to develop an advanced chemical reactor that can store renewable energy as low-carbon fuels through an approach called renewables-to-liquids. 

The team includes HeatPath Solutions, Tonkomo, LLC, Molecule Works, Inc., Dr. Yong Wang, and Boundless Impact Research & Analytics.

Czero participated in the ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit, May 22-24, 2024, which brings together experts from different technical disciplines and professional communities to think about America's energy challenges in new and innovative ways. The Summit offers a unique, three-day program aimed at highlighting the boldest, bravest ideas that could have the biggest impact. Czero's Co-Founder and CEO, Guy Babbitt, and Senior Engineers Mike Sprengel and Nick Echter all helped to showcase our work on ARPA-E projects INTEGRATE, REMEDY and ROOTS.

Czero hosted the 2024 CCIA Clean Energy Fellows Institute cohort on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The Clean Energy Fellows Institute is an annual executive immersion program providing a platform for the exchange of ideas, opportunities, skills and community in order to develop leaders ready to succeed in the world-changing advanced energy business. The year-long immersive program dives into the Colorado and global clean energy and clean technology ecosystems. Czero's Co-Founder and VP of Engineering, Chris Turner, presented Czero's capabilities and some of our interesting projects to the cohort. The group also received a tour of our engineering facilities and were able to see some prototypes being built and tested.

Czero's Co-Founder and CEO, Guy Babbitt attended the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo in Las Vegas, NV, May 20-23, 2024. Attendees included leading fleet operators from every on-road segment, who are rapidly adopting clean fuels and advanced vehicle technologies. Global and national industry executives and stakeholders participated in the most comprehensive advanced transportation technology and clean fleet event.

The Czero team recently stood up the Quixik Machining and Fabrication, LLC., a company dedicated to making prototype components and systems for both Czero and external customers. 

We have been doing this type of work for a while now, but the increased shop area, new tools and additional skilled personnel give Czero far greater capability and capacity, and more importantly even better control over quality and timing.

US Dept of Energy - earthshots - hydrogen logo

Czero is both honored and excited to be part of the project team, lead by Nexceris, for a $30M DOE project, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to scale up our solid oxide electrolysis cells and stacks. Other team members include Current Chemicals, Strategic Analysis, Idaho National Laboratory, UConn, Georgia Tech, Clark Atlanta University, and Florida A&M University. This project will help Nexceris commercialize the solid oxide technology that have been starting since the inception of their company. 

The project is part of $750 million in DOE funding for 52 projects across 24 states to reduce the cost of clean hydrogen and reinforce American leadership in the growing hydrogen industry. These projects will advance electrolysis technologies and improve manufacturing and recycling capabilities for clean hydrogen systems and components.

Czero is excited to be a Connector in the America-Made Program. This Department of Energy funded program helps accelerate clean energy innovation. Czero works extensively with start up companies like many involved in this program. Many of these partnerships have resulted in long term relationships and successful demonstration projects. Working with nimble companies on cutting edge technologies is definitely one of our favorite parts of our job.

Czero has been honored to work with Marquette University (led by Adam Dempsey, Assistant Professor) and other project team members MAHLE Powertrain, and our own Guy Babbitt's alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Madison on an ARPA-E REMEDY (Reducing Emissions of Methane Every Day of the Year) project. 

The team is working to develop a new engine combustion strategy called pre-chamber enabled mixing-controlled combustion (PC-MCC). It allows engines to use a wide variety of hard to ignite, low carbon fuels - while maintaining a robust combustion process like that of a diesel engine.
